Odisha bag 3 medals in Jr Natl Athletics Championship

An 18-member Odisha squad has bagged a total of three medals by the end of second day of the 32nd Junior National Athletics Championship, which is being held at Nehru Stadium in Coimbatore (Tamil Nadu) from Nov 10. The medals include one gold, one silver and one bronze.

Punga Soren won the gold medal in U-16 boys 100 metre hurdles, clocking 13.76 seconds. Rout Singh claimed the bronze medal in U-14 boys triathlon with 1638 points. Earlier on the opening day, Manisha Merel captured the silver medal in under-16 girls’ long jump event with a leap of 5.42 metre. This was the first national medal for Merel, who hails from Sundargarh district.

Among other Odisha athletes, Hari Behera  finished 10th in under-20 boys shot put event, while Lakhan Murmu failed to qualify for under-14 boys long jump final, committing fouls in all three qualifying  attempts.
